WEARIT – Exhibition and Workshops

27 Feb

Photography- Tobias Titz, Hair and Makeup- Yvonne Borland, Styling- Anita Cummins, Model- Paige

Here’s a little blurb about an exhibition & series of workshops I’m presenting in March…

Young Melbourne designers, Emma Grace and Ellie Mücke invite you to be inspired by their novel approaches to making new from old.  Through the Wearit exhibition and workshops, the designers aim to facilitate a shift in the way that we consume fashion items.

You are invited to participate in a workshop, bringing along broken, un-loved and out of date jewellery and shirts to fix or re-create into something new and unique.  Simultaneously an exhibition of new works by Grace and Mücke will provide inspiration, challenge conventions and offer new perspectives.

Wearit is an opportunity to re-connect with community in a regional location and a forum to exchange skills, materials, thoughts and inspiration.  Together we can begin a mental and physical shift away from a ‘throw-away culture’. Come and visit Stockroom this March, and see how wearing the consequences of this shift can be truly inspirational.

Wearit is a participant of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program 2011

Ellie will be there to share her ideas, inspiration and her skills in adapting old to new. Check out past blogs for more on The Treasury.

Lots of fun! View it here

·Snip, Slice, Saw at Hand Held Gallery

This is a little after the fact now, but it was very hard for me to talk about it at the time as it is dedicated to my late friend, the lovely Aley.

It was an installation of great personal significance and while no artwork can do justice to the memory of her life, creating this little bit of beauty and colour helped the healing of my soul.

Craft Cubed 2010 presents The Treasury

4 Aug

For the month of August, The Treasury will be running as a Craft Cubed Satellite Event – every Sunday afternoon!

Event Dates: 8, 15, 22 & 29 August 2010
Venue: The Nicholas Building
Address: 37 Swanston Street, Melbourne
Opening hours: Sunday 2-4.30pm
Contact me to make a booking.

“Emma Grace’s playtime as a child was built around creativity and resourcefulness. Clothes and accessories were fixed and made out of anything and everything. There were no limits to the things that would be sewn, strung, taped, glued and bound together.

The Treasury workshop is based on the simple ethos that everything has potential and nothing is trash. Participants are invited to bring along broken or un-loved jewellery and found objects, to fix or re-create into something new and unique.

The Treasury is about sustainable fashion – guiding people away from ‘throw-away culture’ and leading them back towards the way we used to live; where if something broke, you fixed it, and if you got bored of it, you made it into something new.

It is an opportunity to re-connect with the idea of community; to exchange skills, materials, thoughts and inspiration. We’ll sit around the table with plates of food and tattered jewellery piled high (CWA meets DIY) and leave at the end of the day with a bundle of ‘new’ jewellery and a bunch of new friends.”

Craft Cubed
5 August – 4 September, 2010

Craft Cubed is a highly participatory festival creating space for practitioners and the public to engage with contemporary issues through the medium of craft. The theme for Craft Cubed 2010 is Childhood. A universal concept that is common to all societies, this phase is linked to the testing of boundaries, as notions of right and wrong are established. Childhood is also strongly associated with concepts of experimentation and play. Through the investigation of imagination and morality, the theme of ‘Childhood’ is intended to create a powerful arts event that generates inspiration amongst people of all ages, especially the young at heart!
